Hoseasons is in support of Change4Life. In order to maintain a healthy weight we need to both eat better and move more.
We're committed to providing more opportunities for you to make a change in your life: be more active, try out a new sport and enjoy a healthier holiday. We're developing lots more opportunities for you to be more active whilst on holiday in the UK. Many families are making changes that will help them live healthier and longer lives.
Here are some suggestions for small, easy, steps you can make to help put you and your family happily on your way. Why not try them all?
Excess sugar can mean excess energy which in turn can lead to stored fat in the body and diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. All you have to do is swap food and drink with added sugar for options that are lower in sugar or sugar-free.
We need to make sure kids eat at least five portions of a variety of fruit and veg every day as they are packed with essential vitamins, minerals and fibre which may help reduce the risk of nasty diseases like cancer and heart disease. Try adding vegetables to favourite foods mixing them into a sauce to give it more colour and flavour.
Many snacks can be high in sugar, fat, calories, salt and all the things we shouldn't eat too much of. Many families find that setting a limit on snacks and treats is a great way of keeping a lid on their kids' snacking.
We all seem to be busy these days, and in our hectic modern lives we often don't make time for meals. Rushing, making do and eating on the go all lead to unhealthier eating habits like snacking, eating fast food, TV meals and fussy eating. Make time for regular meals to help avoid unhealthy eating habits.
When kids eat more than their bodies need, it converts to stored fat in their bodies. So many families are making a conscious effort to serve kids kid-sized portions. It's common sense really.
We all know too much fat is bad for us. There are plenty of simple ways to go easy on the fat; Compare food labels, swap certain foods for others and make changes to the way we prepare and cook food.
